What are the OPENCourses?

The INOWAS Groundwater Learning Platform “OPENCourses” is a web-based learning management system that supports the creation and sharing of knowledge related to groundwater. All courses are free of charge and can be attended by anybody willing to learn more about groundwater. Occasionally, some courses will be offered by invitation only, as part of ongoing research activities. Some courses are organised live via Zoom or other platforms (in which case a video recording or the handouts might be made available after the course completion), while others include written step-by-step instructions (in which case the content is grouped in lessons that are available for individual study). There are several categories available:

• Training Courses
  These are courses that teach methods, techniques or skills around a specific topic
• Software Tutorials
  Set of practical step-by-step instructions teaching the use of INOWAS software solutions
• Online Seminars
  Usually invited talks streamed live via Zoom for which either the video recording or the handouts are made available
• Skills Development
  General guidelines aimed at supporting early-career researchers in their career development

The courses include individual lessons and self assessment quizzes that can be completed at any time. Attendance certificates can be provided upon request for certain categories of courses (this will be indicated in the course description).

Who developed the platform?

The platform is developed and maintained by the Research Group on Managed Aquifer Recharge INOWAS at the Institute of Groundwater Management, Department of Hydrosciences under the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of TU Dresden, Germany. The OPENCourses system is part of a toolbox of web-based software solutions developed by the INOWAS group that includes also a web-based groundwater modelling platform (https:/www.inowas.com), a geoportal for management and sharing of geospatial data (https://datahub.inowas.com), and a collection of simple groundwater simulation tools.
